TEHRAN — On Sunday, Imran Khan, Pakistan’s prime minister, single-handedly stood against what he called “falsehood and treason,” and dissolved the parliament, as well as the cabinet, on the charges of colluding with the U.S. to overthrow him

Ah, springtime – the season of rejuvenation, when nature throws off its winter coat and dons a vibrant tapestry of colors. As a springtime baby, I can’t help but feel a special kinship with this magical time of year, despite the pesky allergies that come along for the ride. There’s something about that first breath…

Like many people of a certain age, I often read the obituaries of complete strangers. Often, the euphemisms describing a death (“carried home by the angels”) are cliché, but I keep reading because this person’s story is their legacy; their work, interests, and values contribute to how they will be remembered. Regnault’s Summary Execution under the Moorish Kings of Grenada (1870) achieves shock and horror through its photographic realism, and skilful use of colour contrasts. Tragically, the artist was killed in the Franco-Prussian War, on 19 January 1871, and didn’t live long enough to see the heyday of Naturalism, but his detailed realist style should have made him a good candidate.
